Biography
Assistant Professor (Dr.) Sharfuddin Mahmud completed his MBBS under the University of Dhaka at Sir Salimullah Medical College in 2007. After extensive training in Ear-Nose-Throat & Head-Neck Surgery in various medical college hospitals for long eight years, he obtained MCPS and FCPS from Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons in Otolaryngology and Head Neck Surgery in 2015 and 2018 respectively. He underwent long-term fellowships and hands-on training in Micro-Ear and Skull Base Surgery from Dr. A MAHADEVAJAH ENT Care Centre, India in 2014, World Skull Base Foundation, India in 2018 and Peking Union Medical College Hospital, China in 2016. He also received specialized training in Nasal and Endoscopic Sinus Surgery at Singapore General Hospital in 2018 through a prestigious travel fellowship awarded by the Society of Otolaryngologists & Head-Neck Surgeons of Bangladesh. In recognition of his dedication in snoring and sleep apnoea arena, Association of Surgeons for Sleep Apnoea, Bangladesh granted a Fellowship for Dr. Sharfuddin Mahmud. In addition to being published in 13 recognized medical journals at home & abroad, he was conferred with fellowships from the International College of Surgeons in 2021 (FICS) and the American College of Surgeons in 2023 (FACS)
As of 2025, Assistant Professor Dr. Sharfuddin Mahmud manages approximately 5,000 new referrals and 8,000 follow-up patients annually, offering specialist consultations across the full spectrum of ENT disorders.
He performs around 500 ENT operations each year, including over 1,500 major middle ear surgeries to date.
Since 2011, he conducted several hundred routine nasal procedures. Complex nasal surgeries, such as functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) and lateral rhinotomy, have been successfully performed.
Dr. Sharfuddin mahmud carries out diagnostic procedures, including laryngoscopy, pharyngo oesophagoscopy, and biopsies. He also achieved good outcomes with surgeries like parotidectomy, submandibular gland excisions, branchial cyst and thyroglossal cyst removals, and neck dissection. Dr. Sharfuddin is Proficient in both rigid and fibreoptic endoscopy, performs microlaryngoscору, including vocal cord procedures, with favorable results.
